Research Fellow
Seeking a highly motivated, team-focused researcher with expertise in groundwater modelling and hydrogeology. The preferred applicant will have a Doctorate degree with significant experience in groundwater processes and offer practical solutions in a multi-disciplinary research environment including modelling. In addition, the preferred applicant will ideally have most or all of the following capabilities: • a high level of competency in groundwater modeling and the use of quantitative methods to solving groundwater problems; • undertake groundwater modeling to quantify water balance components and perform scenario analyses in problems related to watershed development programs/managed aquifer recharge and climate change and land-use impacts; • experience in modeling surface water and groundwater interactions; • experience in field research and translation of findings into innovative conceptual and/or quantitative models; • in-depth knowledge of drilling and well construction techniques including in-depth knowledge of aquifer testing; • demonstrated experience conducting hydrogeologic analyses, including development of geologic cross-sections, groundwater gradient calculations, groundwater flow diagrams, groundwater flow assessments, and fate and transport modeling; • demonstrated experience in writing successful proposals, work plans and conducting business development; • proficiency in industry standard groundwater modeling software (MODFLOW and/or FEFLOW); • competency in the application of GIS and remote sensing techniques to hydrological and geohydrological problems; • experience in 2D and 3D earth resistivity tomography imaging for groundwater especially in arid and semi-arid regions. • ability to develop pre-processors for data manipulation and analysis using Excel, Access, SURFER, etc.; • ability to independently design and conduct field research; • ability to work in a team with people from different cultural and professional backgrounds; • Participate in wider NWC forums in relation to research development activities; • strong analytical skills and a learning attitude; • strong oral and written communication skills; • record of publications, which include articles in international peer-reviewed journals;
PhD in the field of Water Resources, Hydrogeology, or a closely related water resources discipline
• A minimum of 15 years of proven experience in research projects in arid regions and preferably with some experience in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries and UAE. • Professional use of numerical/analytical models related to surface water, groundwater, water management.
