Research Assistant for Lab Investigation of CCUS

Job Description

The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the United Arab Emirates University is seeking a Research Assistant for a project on CCUS. The major goal of the project is to characterize CO2 interactions with mafic/ultramafic rocks for carbon storage in UAE reservoirs. This project would involve field trip for rock sample collection in UAE, experiments with HPHT reactors, imaging analysis with SEM, etc. Laboratory data will be used as the basis for modeling of carbonation of CO2 in subsurface formations, e.g. in aquifers or depleted oil/gas reservoirs.

Minimum Qualification

An appropriate educational degree supplemented with documented evidence to support the following: • MSc degree in reservoir engineering, geosciences, hydrology, or any discipline closely related to those fields • Experimental experiences with HPHT reactors • Familiar with commercial reservoir simulators, e.g., CMG • Basic programming skills, e.g., Matlab or Python • Strong spirit of team work • Fluent in both oral and written English

Preferred Qualification

• Solid background in rock characterizations and geochemistry • Experimental skills in with advanced imaging techniques as SEM • Familiar with STARS or GEM modules in CMG • Strong ability in identifying scientific issues and writing project proposals • Independence in conducting scientific research • Commitment to provide a safe and healthy workplace
