Medical Research Specialist
Medical Research Specialist (Molecular Genetic) College of Medicine and Health Sciences-UAEU - employed as full-time staff member participating in research, teaching and administrative activities. Manage and supervise the operations and finance of the molecular Genetics, UAEU Genomic Lab. - Carry out administrative and management work associated with laboratory organization and functioning and research, grants and publications. -Communicate effectively to supervisor and team members. -Be involved with the day-to-day running of the research laboratory, training of graduate and undergraduate students. Be instrumental in research projects, data collection, data management, grant management and the preparation of initial manuscripts, grants and other outputs, contributing significantly to the research output of the University. - Conduct and execute various research experiments. - Perform necessary data analysis, including the statistical analysis, and be involved in interpretation and communication of main results and their preparation for publication and future research grants. - Organize, carry out and assist in teaching Molecular Technique practical’s for postgraduate, medical students and interns. - Create and improve production workflows and processes where appropriate. - Be responsible for the technical development, maintenance and troubleshooting of all laboratory equipment. - Ensure that safe laboratory practices are followed. - Independently conduct experiments involving molecular assays. - Operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of PCR (polymerase chain reaction), RT-PCR (real time PCR), Sanger sequencing, and NGS (Next Generation Sequencing). -Perform related duties in the laboratory to include specimen handling, using manual and automatic equipment to test specimens -Process patient samples for testing using appropriate identification techniques and written procedures to ensure quality material for testing. -Calibrate and maintain instrumentation according to standard operating procedure. -Participate in the development of new molecular genetic laboratory tests and techniques -Review written procedures and policies for accuracy and submit changes to manager or designee. -Understand, comply, and perform with all necessary safety procedures. -Comply with competency testing procedures for the laboratory staff. -May provide technical guidance and instruction to students, interns, residents, staff and other employees. - Perform and document quality control checks of data and quality assurance results -Set up polymerase chain reactions; trouble-shoot such reactions. - Perform validation tests of lab reagents. - Collect, organize, interpret and submit experimental data to database and supervisors. -Maintain timely and accurate laboratory records (electronic and written). -Perform general lab maintenance duties. -Maintain and monitor inventory of all in-house samples and reagent supplies. Data analysis, interpretation and reporting
B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in a relevant discipline.
Experience in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical instruments including PCR (polymerase chain reaction), RT-PCR (real time PCR), Sanger sequencing, and NGS (Next Generation Sequencing).
Minimum 3-4 years in academic or research institution setting and/or in the relevant scientific field.
