Postdoc

Job Description

Postdoctoral Researcher in electrophysiological and experimental circadian biology We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher to join a research project examining circadian electrophysiological rhythms in blood cells. The project is a collaboration between United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in Al Ain, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, and international collaborators in the UK (at Cambridge, Leicester, and Reading). The project is multidisciplinary in nature and aims to characterize circadian rhythms in human blood cells at a physiological and molecular levels. The post holder will research, design experiments and entrainment protocols to ensure milestones and objectives are met. The post holder will have key responsibilities, which include but not limited to: -Carrying out blood isolation and any entrainment protocols -Testing samples using various tools including dielectrophoresis, imaging, Western Blotting and immunohistochemistry -Investigating the effects of various drug treatments on cell behavior -General lab housekeeping, organization, health and safety documentation, managing research students and research technician. -Training will be provided where necessary We are seeking an individual with a PhD degree in Biophysics, Bioengineering or a relevant biological subject and must have: -High motivation and intellect levels to learn, develop and carry out scientific research to move research forward -High level of numeracy and computer literacy, including MATLAB -Experience with cell culture and/or electrophysiology -High organizational, communication, and interpersonal interaction skills -Proactive and good at trouble shooting -High level of flexibility to work “out of hours” due to the nature of circadian driven experiments. Highly desirable: -Experience with dielectrophoresis, biophysics and confocal microscopy -Knowledge about concepts and principles of circadian biology -Good publication track record on relevant scientific topics
