Projects Manager
The ASPIRE Research Institute for Food Security in the Drylands, ARIFSID, requires a dynamic and experienced Entrepreneurship Support Manager (based in UAEU), to manage the activities of their food security entrepreneurship incubator FO-SEC LAUNCH LAB. The ARIFSID provides an international platform for interdisciplinary research and education that generates and disseminates knowledge and technological innovation in support of food security in the UAE and other arid environments of the world. It aims to become a global leader in the provision of innovative technologies and management concepts that support the sustainability, safety and resilience of food supply systems in the world’s arid ecological zones. Within this project “FO-SEC LAUNCH LAB” has been created as a Virtual Business Incubator, striving to support young researchers in building entrepreneurial ideas and business plans based on intellectual property created under the umbrella of ARIFSID. This call is for suitably qualified and dynamic entrepreneurship applicants with experience in incubators, innovation and start-ups to work as an Entrepreneurship Support Manager for FO-SEC LAUNCH LAB which forms part of our multi-million AED project focusing on food security in the UAE. The Entrepreneurship Support Manager will drive the development and growth of the incubator by supporting the innovation and IP in food security produced by the project. He/she will manage the promotion and profile of ARIFSID and FO-SEC within the university community as well as nationally. The lab should ultimately create impact by the operation of FO-SEC as an efficient platform for public outreach, technology transfer, education, research, and business incubation. The contract is for 12 months with the possibility of extension on an annual basis, depending on performance.
A Masters’ degree (entrepreneurship/ marketing/business) is the minimum requirement, but a PhD would be an advantage. Knowledge of the practices and processes of new venture creation, and the commercialisation of university research and experience in incubators is essential. Applicants should demonstrably show real-world experience of incubators – if this is within food technology it would be a significant advantage. Experience in running workshops and seminars within both the business and academic community would be preferable. Applicants must have excellent English Communication (spoken and written). Arabic language skills would also be an advantage.
