Systems Librarian Specialist

Job Description

The Systems Librarian is responsible for managing and maintaining the library's integrated library system (ILS) –(ERM) and other related technologies like research systems and solutions. This role involves ensuring the efficient operation, continuous improvement, and integration of library software systems with other campus systems. The Systems Librarian will provide technical support, lead digital initiatives, and work collaboratively with library staff and external vendors to enhance the library’s technological infrastructure. Tasks and Responsibilities: System Management and Maintenance: • Oversee the day-to-day operation and administration of the library's integrated library system (ILS) and Research CRIS. • Ensure the system/s are up-to-date, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with vendors for support and maintenance. Integration and Development: • Work on integrating the ILS with other campus systems and external databases. • Develop and implement new functionalities to enhance library services. • Ensure seamless data flow and interoperability between the ILS and other university systems. User Support and Training: • Provide technical support and training to library staff and users on the use of library systems and software. • Create documentation and training materials for library systems. Data Management and Reporting: • Manage bibliographic, authority, item, and patron data within the ILS. • Generate reports and analyze data to support library operations and decision-making. Statistics using data visualization tools. Collaboration and Coordination: • Collaborate with library departments to understand their needs and improve system functionalities. • Work with IT departments and other university stakeholders to ensure library systems are secure and integrated with campus-wide technologies. Digital Initiatives and Projects: • Participate in or lead projects related to digital library initiatives, such as institutional repositories, digital archives, and online exhibits. • Explore and implement new technologies to support the library’s mission.

Minimum Qualification

a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution, coupled with considerable experience in library systems and services.

Preferred Qualification

Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an accredited institution, with a strong background in Information Technology.
