Librarian Specialist I

Job Description

Assists in the provision of reference services; performs clerical (sometimes para-professional) reference services tasks. • Scheduled information desk duty including circulation assistance. • Arrangement and shelving of books returned to the library along with the new arrival books. • Collecting and re-shelving books used in the library. • Do shelf reading to keep books organized on the shelves. • Helps library users to locate the book on the shelf. • Helps direct library users to the appropriate staff member. • Cooperating with technical services to modify the call number. • Answers telephone and face-to-face basic reference queries. • Assists users in locating books, periodicals, and other library materials using basic library retrieval tools, such as the online catalog, journal databases, and other indexes • Assists in finding basic information in reference sources, verifying bibliographic citations, locating full text articles, checking book information in the online catalog, and identifying interlibrary call numbers • Receives new books from cataloging, and checks accuracy of labels • Assists with other Public Services functions, such as circulation, reserve, or shelving, when necessary • Keeps statistics on reference and directional questions • Communicate with the university colleges by the Outreach program. • Receives and processes interlibrary loan and document delivery requests for journal articles and monographs; verifies citations in a variety of databases as appropriate; performs all document imaging activities, including retrieving material from shelves, scanning and posting documents electronically.
