Post-Doctoral Researcher in Agricultural Water Management and Irrigation

Job Description

The successful candidate will work as a Post-Doc in the ASPIRE Research Institute for Food Security in the Drylands. This institute features a comprehensive and highly interdisciplinary R&D program and provides an international collaboration platform for researchers and stakeholders of the public and private food and agricultural sector. It strives to generate knowledge and technological innovation in support of food security in the UAE and other arid environments of the world. As part of one of its research themes, the institute is aiming to develop water-saving irrigation technologies and practices for date palms and fodder crops. This work will involve the development and test of technical infrastructure supporting feasible on-farm water management. In support of this research we seek to hire a Post-doctoral research fellow with a strong background in field-based research on technical optimization of plant water supply and fertigation, and/or experience with the use of simulation models of water use efficiency, and water flow through agricultural systems. We welcome applicants with a strong publication record in the concerned field, and offer an inspiring working environment in an interdisciplinary and international consortium. The candidate is expected to work independently, contribute efficiently to the publication of research results in well-reputed scientific journals, and support graduation projects of UAEU students

Minimum Qualification

• PhD in Agricultural Water Management, Irrigation, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field. • Record of publications in well-reputed international scientific journals. • A high level of collegiality, compliance with ethical standards, and the willingness to collaborate with researchers, stakeholders, and students across disciplines.

Preferred Qualification

A highly motivated post-doctoral researcher with a demonstrable ability to independently conceptualize and conduct on-farm trials in the field of agricultural water management and irrigation.

Expected Skills

Experience with the deployment of remote sensing technologies, IOT / AI based decision support, sensor networks, and/or simulation models is much appreciated. Familiarity with date palm and fodder crop cultivation is of advantage.

Salary Range

10.000 - 18.000 AED
