Senior Ground Station Technician
The Senior Ground Station Technician will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, and control of NSSTC’s ground station facilities and satellite communication systems. The objective is to ensure the successful execution of satellite missions, including remote sensing tasks, through effective scheduling, communication, and data processing. The operator will work closely with the operations and mission teams to plan, execute, and monitor satellite operations in real time, ensuring that all user requests and mission objectives are achieved efficiently and accurately. Tasks and Responsibilities: - Operate, monitor, and control NSSTC’s ground station equipment, including antennas and communication systems, to ensure consistent satellite tracking and communication. - Collaborate with the operations and mission teams to plan and execute mission schedules, including imaging requests from scientific users. - Utilize specialized software for mission planning, scheduling, and execution, ensuring the correct commands are sent to the satellite. - Monitor satellite telemetry and health status, identifying any anomalies and escalating issues when necessary. - Perform routine testing and maintenance of ground station hardware and software, ensuring optimal performance and availability. - Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to satellite communication and ground segment infrastructure. - Keep detailed logs of all mission activities, ground station operations, and satellite performance. - Assist with the integration and testing of new satellite systems and equipment as part of NSSTC’s satellite programs. - Ensure compliance with all operational procedures and safety standards during satellite operation and ground station activities. - Work collaboratively with the engineering team and other departments to improve processes, operations, and satellite mission outcomes.
- Technical diploma or high school diploma in fields such as Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related area (Aircraft & Avionics).
- Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new technical software applications.
