Research Assistant
The Integrative Agriculture Department at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine is currently seeking candidates for the Research Assistant position. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in moving forward with research projects in horticulture, specifically focusing on microalgae culturing and biomass production in aquaponic system. The research project involves the application of cell culture techniques, extraction, characterisation of bioactive compounds, molecular analysis of algae species (DNA or RNA extraction, PCR amplification). The candidtae will also conduct biochemical and nutritional analysis to quantify proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and mineral content of algal biomass. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in horticulture projects, especially those involving aquaponics as feeding trials and system performance assessment will have to be designed and conducted by the candidate. The selected candidate is expected to have strong writing skills for publications. Master’s Degree in Biotechnology or Horticulture
