Assistant Professor
The Department of Geography and Urban Sustainability at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position specializing in GIS and Remote Sensing. The selected candidate will contribute to research, teaching, and service in the fields of spatial analysis, environmental modeling, and geospatial decision support systems.
• Ph.D. in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, or a closely related field from a recognized university. • Demonstrated expertise in Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), Google Earth Engine (GEE), R Studio, and SPSS Statistical Package for geospatial analysis and decision-making. • A strong track record of publications in high-impact, Scopus-indexed journals. • Experience in acquiring and managing externally funded research projects. • Proven ability to mentor students and supervise graduate research projects.
• Experience in machine learning applications in GIS and Remote Sensing. • Involvement in international research collaborations and academic conferences. • Demonstrated proficiency in geospatial modeling for environmental applications, sustainability assessment, and spatial decision support systems. • Prior teaching experience in GIS, Remote Sensing, spatial statistics, and environmental data analysis. • Active role as a peer reviewer or editorial board member in reputable scientific journals.
Experience: • Research, teaching, and service in GIS and Remote Sensing • Experience in developing and delivering undergraduate and graduate courses in GIS and Remote Sensing • Proven track record of publishing in high-impact journals • Experience in securing research funding and leading research projects • Engagement in academic advising and mentoring students • Participation in university and departmental service activities Skill Set: • Advanced knowledge of GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and remote sensing tools • Expertise in spatial analysis and environmental modeling • Proficiency in geospatial decision support systems • Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence applications in GIS • Experience in working with big geospatial data and cloud computing platforms • Ability to integrate GIS and Remote Sensing into interdisciplinary research • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in academic and professional settings
