Post-Doctoral Fellow (Marine Disinfection)
The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is seeking a qualified Postdoctoral Researcher to join a multidisciplinary research team at the National Water and Energy Center (NWEC). The successful candidate will work on a collaborative project titled “Study of Biofouling Control Alternatives for Cooling Water Systems in Seawater” focused on the mitigation of biofouling. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for designing and operating lab-scale and pilot-scale experimental setups, developing biofouling assessment protocols, and conducting hydrodynamic simulations to evaluate the effectiveness of chlorine- and bromine-based biocidal treatments. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of a comprehensive biofouling control framework with direct industry application. In addition to the primary research duties, the successful candidate will be expected to: • Publish research findings • Contribute to the preparation of research proposals • Supervise and mentor graduate students • Support dissemination and outreach activities • Collaborate across disciplines • Assist in laboratory and resource management This role provides an excellent platform for early-career researchers seeking to develop an independent research profile and gain experience in interdisciplinary environmental engineering projects with strong industry relevance.
• Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related Engineering discipline. • Proven experience in laboratory-based water treatment research or biofilm/biofouling studies. • Demonstrated ability to design and operate continuous flow systems or pilot plants. • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills. • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
• Experience with biofilm quantification methods such as ATP, AOC, chlorophyll analysis, flowcytometry, confocal laser microscope or microscopic imaging. • Familiarity with chemical dosing systems and marine antifouling treatments. • Hands-on experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools such as ANSYS Fluent or COMSOL. • Track record of peer-reviewed publications in relevant fields. • Experience conducting fieldwork or coordinating pilot-scale investigations.
