Research Assistant Professor – Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics

Job Description

KCGEB invites applications for a Research-Track Assistant Professor position specializing in Functional Genomics with strong expertise in Bioinformatics. The successful candidate will lead and support cutting-edge research in genome function, gene regulation, and systems biology, with an emphasis on integrating multi-omics data to understand trait architecture and environmental responses in plants, animals, or microbes of agricultural or ecological relevance. This position is part of the Center’s strategic vision to harness advanced genomic tools and bioinformatics to address challenges in food security, desert agriculture, and synthetic biology.

Minimum Qualification

• Ph.D. in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Computational Biology, or a related field. • A strong publication record in functional genomics and/or bioinformatics. • Proven experience in computational genomics, genome-wide data analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, or similar languages). • Familiarity with plant, animal, or microbial genomic systems is an advantage. • Experience with high-throughput sequencing data and genome assembly tools is highly desirable. • Experience in managing data workflows and bioinformatics infrastructure is a plus.

Preferred Qualification

• Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary teams. • Interest in translational applications (e.g., synthetic biology, precision agriculture, stress adaptation). • Ability to contribute to capacity building and training within the Center.

Expected Skills

• Lead independent and collaborative research projects in functional genomics, focusing on gene function, regulatory networks, epigenomics, or transcriptomics. • Apply computational and statistical approaches to analyze large-scale genomics data (e.g., RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, WGS, HiFi, or long-read data). • Develop and maintain pipelines for genome annotation, variant calling, and integrative multi-omics analysis. • Supervise research staff, postdocs, and graduate students involved in genomics and computational biology. • Publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and contribute to the global scientific community. • Contribute to proposal writing to secure external funding. • Support the Center’s translational research goals, including trait discovery and biotechnology applications.

Special Instructions to Applicant

• A cover letter aligned with KCGEB priorities • CV with a complete list of publications • Contact for three references
