Research Assistant
Project Title: Optimising Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cell Applications in Musculoskeletal Tissue Engineering Position Summary: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join an interdisciplinary research project aimed at optimising the isolation and characterisation of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) for musculoskeletal tissue engineering applications. The successful candidate will actively contribute to experimental design, hands-on laboratory research, data analysis, and the dissemination of research outcomes within a dynamic research environment. Key Responsibilities: • Assist with the isolation, culture, and expansion of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells • Conduct in vitro assays related to cell viability, characterisation, and differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells • Support musculoskeletal tissue engineering experiments, including scaffold preparation and evaluation of cell–biomaterial interactions • Maintain accurate and well-documented laboratory records while ensuring compliance with biosafety and ethical guidelines • Assist in data collection, statistical analysis, and interpretation of experimental results • Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, technical reports, and conference presentations • Support general laboratory operations, including organisation, equipment maintenance, and reagent inventory management To apply for this position, please provide: 1- A cover letter (summarises your qualifications, previous experience, and why you would ypu be a suitable candidate for this role). 2- Copy of your CV 3- Contact details of 2 academic references.
Master’s degree in Biomedical Science, Veterinary Medicine, Biotechnology, Tissue Engineering, Cell Biology, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years post-graduation research experience in Biomedical Science, Veterinary Medicine, Biotechnology, Tissue Engineering, Cell Biology, or a related field
Master’s degree in Biomedical Science, Veterinary Medicine, Biotechnology, Tissue Engineering, Cell Biology, or a related field + minimum 2 years post-graduation research experience
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in cell culture techniques, including mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) isolation, characterization, and 2D/3D culture systems • Sound knowledge of stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, and tissue engineering, with familiarity in musculoskeletal biology considered an advantage • Proficiency in molecular and cellular biology techniques such as PCR, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, and basic data analysis • Experience in maintaining accurate laboratory records, scientific documentation, and preparation of reports or manuscripts • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary research team • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a laboratory setting • Previous research experience, including participation in funded projects and/or scientific publications, is desirable • Good communication skills (written and verbal) and a professional approach to laboratory safety and ethics
