Job Description

The Department of Geography and Urban Sustainability at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position in Urban Planning. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong background in urban planning and demonstrate excellence in teaching, research, and service. The appointee will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, develop an active research agenda, supervise student research projects, and participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.

Minimum Qualification

Ph.D. in Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Regional Planning, or a closely related field from an accredited institution (completed by the time of appointment). Applicants must have earned a doctorate in their field of specialization from a top-ranking university in North America, Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand. Demonstrated record of research and scholarly publications in relevant areas of urban planning. Applicants with solid research portfolios and publications in prominent peer-reviewed journals will be given priority. Evidence of teaching effectiveness or potential for high-quality teaching at the university level, particularly in planning theories courses. The ability to teach undergraduate courses is required. Strong communication skills in English. Industrial and professional experience is a plus.

Preferred Qualification

Research specialization aligned with contemporary urban challenges (e.g., sustainable cities, smart cities, transportation planning, urban resilience, GIS applications in planning, climate adaptation, housing policy, urban regeneration, conservation, or related areas). Experience supervising graduate students. Professional planning experience or collaboration with public/private sector planning agencies. Familiarity with the regional context of the Gulf or Middle East is an advantage.
