Research Assistant
The Research Assistant (RA) will support the implementation of the research project titled “Tourism Carbon Narratives for Mapping and Communicating Low-Carbon Heritage Tourism Pathways in the UAE.” The RA will assist in all stages of the project, including data collection, analysis, stakeholder engagement, and dissemination. Key responsibilities include: Conducting literature reviews and policy analysis on sustainable tourism and carbon emissions Collecting and managing qualitative and quantitative data (surveys, interviews, focus groups) Transcribing and translating data (Arabic ↔ English) Assisting in carbon mapping of heritage tourism sites (e.g., Al Ain Oasis, Sharjah Heritage Areas) Supporting workshops with community stakeholders and heritage practitioners Analyzing data using tools such as NVivo, SPSS, and Excel Assisting in writing research reports, policy briefs, and Q1 journal publications Supporting the organization of the final dissemination symposium at UAEU
Master’s degree in Tourism, Heritage Studies, Environmental Studies, Geography, or a related field Strong academic writing and research skills Fluency in English (written and spoken)
Experience in sustainable tourism, climate change, or heritage management research Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods Experience using NVivo, SPSS, or similar tools Fluency in Arabic (preferred for fieldwork and translation)
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills Ability to conduct fieldwork and engage with stakeholders Experience in survey design and data collection Ability to work independently and as part of a research team Strong organizational and time-management skills Interest in sustainability, tourism, and cultural heritage
